NIP vs. Team Liquid

Tue 20th Oct 2015 - 6:21pm

In our first series of The Defense Season 5 we won against CompLexity Gaming 2-0, but this time around we are up against Team Liquid. Considering there are only two spots to the playoffs in our group it's very important that we perform as the group also features teams like Vega Squadron and 4C&L.

GAME ONE

Ninjas in Pyjamas
Era:
Spectre
Limmp:
Queen of Pain
Jonassomfan:
Axe
Handsken:
Undying
Sealkid:
Witch Doctor

Team Liquid
MATUMBAMAN:
Windranger
FATA-:
Razor
MinD_ContRoL:
Broodmother
JerAx:
Tusk
KuroKy:
Dazzle

NIP opt for the aggressive tri lane but it is expected from the side of Team Liquid who put Broodmother on the safe lane which forces NIP to use three teleports right away as they want Axe against the Broodmother but MinD_ContRoL simply follows the tri lane so NIP do not have the matchup they wanted. First blood is awarded to JerAx as he finds a kill on Jonassomfan with the help of MATUMBAMAN. The lanes go horribly wrong for NIP as Jonassomfan isn’t allowed to get a good matchup and the tri lane fails horribly as Liquid are able to get several kills on Era. At one point NIP can’t defend Era properly and Liquid can more or less dive him anytime without risking much which makes NIP call GG after 17 minutes.

GAME TWO

Ninjas in Pyjamas
Era:
Tiny
Limmp:
Queen of Pain
Jonassomfan:
Clockwerk
Handsken:
Wisp
Sealkid:
Keeper of the Light

Liquid
MATUMBAMAN:
Necrophos
FATA-:
Razor
MinD_ContRoL:
Earthshaker
JerAx:
Winter Wyvern
KuroKy:
Undying

NIP get the first blood bonus as Wisp kills Earthshaker but unfortunately NIP trade both supports for the kill. The first parts of the early game don’t go in favor of NIP but once Era manages to find some levels he and Handsken are successful in finding a few kills on Undying and Earthshaker. With this slight momentum NIP find kills on the other cores on the side of Team Liquid and with it they start to accrue the first big lead of the game. NIP opt for Roshan a while into the mid game but Team Liquid challenge the Swedes and win the following team fight with a fresh BKB on FATA- who picks up the first Aegis of the game. With Era opting for a Desolator Liquid are very careful about losing structures so they don’t accomplish much with the Aegis and even get the second Aegis of the game but also that Aegis only nets them small objectives. NIP win a huge team fight after the second Aegis has expired as FATA- uses his BKB defensively before the team fight erupts which puts his team in a huge disadvantage as they lose all 5 for one kill on the Wisp of NIP. Team Liquid do not have a single buyback at this point and because of it lose both set of barracks on the side lanes leaving them with only one left in the middle lane. With total map control NIP take the third Aegis of the game and push high ground. Era walks up the high ground but is taking too much damage which forces Wisp to help him out but it’s here Liquid find their chance as they kill the Wisp and without his spirit ball friend the Tiny is drained from all his damage by Razor who with ease fight off NIP and kill Era twice. Team Liquid decide to force high ground against NIP hoping to perhaps get a buyback from Era, instead there is a huge team fight and yet again Era is completely shut down by the Static Link from Razor and is killed with the Aghanim’s Scepter upgraded Reaper’s Scythe which removes his option to buyback. Without the Tiny NIP can but stall the game but Team Liquid realize the opportunity and kill the throne of NIP before Tiny can respawn.

With this loss we are currently 1-1 in The Defense Season 5 group stage, but do not fret as we have three remaining bo2's left to play before everything is said and done. Tune in tomorrow to the Summit 4 European Qualifiers 17.00 CET for more NIP Dota action as we are the first team to go up against the new iteration of Na'Vi!
